HOMEWORK/ASSIGNMENT DETAILS

Personal Photo Assignment

Goals:

  • To discuss what makes a photo meaningful.
  • To examine what draws us to a particular photo even if it has no personal reference for us.
  • To get to know one another better

Details:

  • Please bring in a photograph of personal significance.
  • This should be an actual photo, not a magazine photo or an Internet photo.
  • Internet photos printed out at home may be used, but please print your photo BEFORE you get to class (activity blocks or at home).

You will take 20 photos on your digital camera.

These photos can be easily taken at home and at school so don’t worry about the short time frame and try and have some fun!

These do not have to be “great” photos but you should at least be trying to get a decent (i.e. non-blurry) shot of each item or scene – don’t just wait to take them all during activity blocks!

Requirements:

  • You should be able to show evidence of photos taken indoors and photos taken outdoors;
  • you should have photos taken with a flash and photos taken without your flash

Topics:
1. a reflective surface (mirror, glass, water)
2. a person (sibling, friend, you)
3. a building
4. your bedroom
5. shoes
6. something abstract (i.e. you probably can't tell what the object is without someone telling you)
7. something you wash
8. something soft
9. something found in nature
10. something manmade
11. something shiny
12. something red
13. something alive
14. something representing “time”
15. something edible
16. something beautiful
17. something ugly
18. something old
19. something new
20. the sky

Here is a checklist f the 20 items to help keep you organized!
